If you open it directly in the browser, you will see an empty page. You can add webfonts, meta tags, or analytics to this file. In order to understand this, we need to learn about one more concept in the world of modern JavaScript toolchains, which is webpack. Think of webpack as a tool that bundles up all your source files. Besides, webpack also helps in making the code modular and flexible when you supply it with additional config options.

Coming back to index. If you look at the webpack. When webpack compiles the assets, it produces a single bundle or several, if you use code splitting. It makes their final paths available to all plugins — one such plugin is for injecting scripts into HTML. The inject option is also set to true. Now that we understand index. But where are these values used? When a user adds a web app to their home screen using Chrome or Firefox on Android — or Safari on iOS — the metadata in manifest.

You can see this linked inside index. In tandem with either package-lock. The scripts field is of particular interest here. This specifies that when you run npmcommands like npm start, it will actually run react-scripts start.

You can read here to see everything it does for you. Yarn is a package manager for JavaScript dependencies. It is an alternative to the default package manager that ships with every Node. Create React App will detect if you have Yarn installed and if so will use that to install dependencies rather than npm. In order to get consistent installs across machines, Yarn needs more information than the dependencies you configure in your package.

Yarn needs to store exactly which versions of each dependency were installed. To run the app, you can either run npm startor yarn start. Home screen of the app The app looks something like the above figure when you run it. The index. This is the code that we are interested in. Any application can be built by stripping stuff out and tweaking the App. Structure of a React app A typical React application looks something like the above figure. This is the design pattern used by any basic React application.

At this point, we should be able to start building any simple single-page application by tweaking App. The App. Array 5 ]. The restaurant data is modeled as the state of this app. Saving the state separately in a file outside of App. In the render function, we pass this data to the Card component as properties. Data flows down to child components as properties and flows back up through callbacks, which is the OnChange callback used for updating the star ratings.

All the styles are inside App. The dependencies are handled by the module system. So how do you enable this in a project created using Create React App? This is quite simple!

Just add the following code inside index. Yarn Both npm and Yarn are package managers. Yarn was created by Facebook in order to solve some of the problems they faced with npm. Getting started with Create React App

Mobile Renaming React-Native Apps We create open-source because we love it, and we share our finding so everyone else can benefit as well.

To be completely honest, renaming React-Native apps has been discouraged, so the common suggestion has been to simply make a new app with the correct name, then migrating your code. As someone who has never felt this was a true solution, I wanted to find exactly what it took to make this change, and it was a lot easier than I expected. The process of changing the name of a React-Native app is fairly simple, but quite involved. The majority of it is simply renaming files, and making sure the references are updated to match the new name.

Prior Preparation Before we start, make sure your app has no issues building before starting. We also need to do some cleanup or we could end up with some reference artifacts. For iOS, we also want to remove all of our Pods.

Once you have decided what to change the name to, we start by updating the highest level files referenced within the JavaScript code itself. Within the app. Feel free to skip to the Android section if you want to skip it. In this file the app name is used for many names and file paths references. Using find and replace on this file can cause all sorts of issues.

Even so, this is often the biggest roadblock for many trying to rename their project. Once open, we want to select the project in the Project Navigator left panel , and rename the project name to use the new app name.

Since we do, click rename, and Xcode will automatically rename some other files for you automatically. So instead, we want to create new folders with our new name to replace these using Create New Group , then drag-and-drop the old files into their new counterpart folder. You can create a new folder using the New Group option Schemes and Targets Once the folders are replaced, we want to rename our Schemes. On the right-side, open the inspector and change the name of the target to the new app name.

After renaming the target, go into the Build Settings, and then update the location value for the Info. Next, rename the xcworkspace file, and the xcodeproj files to reflect the new project name. Rename Pods To start this process, we really just want to update the target names in our Podfile. Most of the Pod section is completely dynamic, so updating the target names will take care of most settings renaming the project target names, the output file, the support files, and all sort of other Pod related files.

Once the targets are updated in the Podfile, reinstall the Pods with the updated target names. Renaming React-Native for Android Renaming the Android project is a whole lot easier than the iOS project, mostly due the ability to do a Find and Replace for most settings.

Once you have changed those two files, you should be able to build your project with the new name. Go ahead and test that now. Changing the Package Name Updating the package name is completely optional.

If you do update the package name, you will have to reconfigure any services referencing that package name see next section.
