    Reality is outside our minds—the world is of real existence not made by human beings, but that human mind can know about the real world. This knowledge is the most reliable guide to individual behavior Ornstein, Levine, Gutek, , p. In their classrooms, teachers who are realists teach students about the world through reality. They teach skills such as reading, writing, and computation and other subjects that include history, mathematics, and science Ornstein, Levine, Gutek, , p.

    Realism fits best with my own views of reality. I believe knowledge of subjects informs students about the world we live in. Realism makes more sense to me even with the knowledge I have about God and cultural values.

    However, there are downsides to these approaches as they do not suffice what holistic learning and education require. I firmly believe that balance is still key to attain holistic and effective learning which would require to apply the different philosophical views in education.

    If all would be integrated, surely learning experience would be at its best. Balance is still key to achieve complete and holistic learning. I would apply the facts of daily life in teaching but also integrate it with books and ideals that will provide holistic learning and balance in education.

    Why do you say so? I believe it is a positive trait of existentialism since it urges us to question and think who we really are and the purpose we have not just in the society but also in life.

    I also think it is a negative trait of existentialism since it questions everything in life which is not good at times. Change is the only thing constant in life. And to question that everything changes would be unreasonable since change is part of progress. How would you compare and differentiate Pragmatism and Pragmatic education from Idealism, Realism, and Existentialism? Provide examples of how Pragmatism is manifested in contemporary education and teaching practices.

    Instead of keeping thoughts in the mind, pragmatism suggests that ideas and thoughts should be applied. It does not question changes which is constant in life, unlike existentialism does. Since pragmatism focuses on the growth of individuals and the society, progress, which is caused by changes, is valuable.

    It does not suggest final and fixed process of learning. Pragmatism, basically, aims continuous learning and education. For example, teachers conduct training every after school year to improve the teaching practices and assess what needs to be improved to better teach students and provide better learning experience for them. To sum it all up, as mentioned above, these philosophical views in education would be a big contributor to holistic learning if they are integrated since each view would complement to what other views lack.
